Updated: The battle over the ‘Comic Con’ name continues!

News out of Salt Lake City is saying that Salt Lake Comic Con has successfully trademarked their name, and will be moving past the lawsuit with San Diego Comic-Con once it goes to trial. The story has been the talk of fans and industry since SDCC filed against Salt Lake almost a year ago. Settlement talks broke down between the two conventions earlier in the month and while there is no date yet, a trial seems imminent.

UPDATE: Bleeding Cool covered San Diego Comic-Con’s response in which they say:

“We were less surprised by the registration than we were of the organizers’ take on it,” commented David Glanzer, spokesperson for Comic-Con International. “As there is no opposition process for a Supplemental Registration we of course were not able oppose it, however we are engaging this matter as part of the normal course of protecting our already granted and incontestable trademarks.”

For the rest of the statement, see Bleeding Cool’s article.
